Works for Me 5

I have been excited to post something that I did not buy for once. I am sure most of you moms are familiar with Taggies®. I, myself, wasn't too familiar with them until a couple months ago when we realized that Liam seeks out tags on all his soft toys. The toy was the tag... not the actual toy itself. He especially loved the tag on his soft baby football that daddy bought him. He would rotate it until he found the tag and go to town drooling on it.

I remember seeing Taggies® back when I was shopping online when I was pregnant, so I looked them up again. I saw the product and said to myself, "I could make that!" And that I did! And without spending a dime on it. I had plenty of left over baby fabric from the few quilts I have made and I always collect lots of ribbon for a more personal touch on my wrapped gifts. So here you have it... Tag heaven for Liam:

Little Bit is the same way about tags. My husband and I often wonder what is going through her mind when she's looking so intently at a tag. We have an original taggie but it has too much interfacing in it so it is really stiff (and fleece so it is too hot for summer) so i decided to make one for her. It is kinda small and flimsy so it is perfect! she loves it! yea for us innovative moms :)

My kids never liked tags...but that blankie sure is cute. I think I might try to make one for a gift the next time I know an expectant mommy.

I have seen these before, but only because my sister got one for her 1st from her MIL. My kids were to old by then, but oh, how I wished that was around when I had them so small!! Love them!

That's really cute! There are so many baby things that exist that I had NO IDEA about. I guess that will all come with time (and pregnancy). I remember when I was little that I loved the feel of the satin border on my blanket. Way cute, Gina!

My 3 year old is completely attached to her taggie. When I bought that thing (they ain't cheap) I figured it would be a complete waste of money. Not so. I think she might go off to college with her taggie---IF it lasts that long! :)

I've been doing a compliation of our "favorite things" over at my blog and you've just inspired me to do a post on my kids favorite things!

What a fantastic idea!

Great idea! Why spend so much on an item that is all straight seams and nothing but a square? And it looks like you did a beautiful job. Liam sure looks like a satisfied customer, LOL!

I've never heard of Taggies. I love homemade blankies. What a wonderful gift that would make!

That's really neat Gina. Could I pay you to make 1 for Livie??

I am not going to say no to that! Just pick out what materials you want and I will do it. I think I can sacrifice 2 hours of blogging to get that done for you...

What a great idea, I've never heard of them. I think I'll get started on one right away. I've heard of babies scratching their eyes on tags on toys but I guess if you make your own they would have finished edges! Awesome!

You have no idea how sewing retarded I am. What kind of material do I need to get and what kind of ribbons? Seriously. I have no idea.

Eli loves those taggies too! I'd never heard of them, but my mom bought him a little blanket (it looks just like Liam's) and a little book. The funny thing is, he seeks out the 'real' taggies tag on teh blanket...can't fool him!!!

What is it about those tags? My daughters both had to have something satiny to hold on to when they sucked their thumbs. My younger daughter had a stuffed bear with a tag on its behind (of all places!) and even though it had a ribbon around its neck, she preferred the tag! We called it butt-bear, and she wouldn't go anywhere without it.

I've never heard of Taggies, but it is a great idea. Making one yourself is even better! Great tip.
