Liam Summer 2008 - Our tomato harvester It's that time again!
Liam helped me plant the first half of our garden last night. Ian picked up a couple of the jiffy greenhouse peat moss kits. We sorted through all the seeds we've bought in previous years and decided what we would try this year. We've stored them in the garage, so I am not sure if they'll germinate. That is why we start this process in March right?
Last night we planted:
Brussel Sprouts
Cantelope
Catnip
Carrots
Delicious Tomatoes
Roma Tomatoes
Sunflowers
Sweet Peppers
Winter Squash
Zucchini
Peas
Poppy Flowers
A few days ago we ordered all the rare seeds we want to try this year. It's fun picking them out as a family. We are going to have some funny looking squash, melon and tomatoes this year. We love experimenting with rare breeds - Ian especially.
Ian is expanding our garden area this year to accommodate everything. I think we'll wait to do the cucumbers and pumpkins outside when the frost is clear... putting those behind everything else will only benefit us. They seem to crawl and take over EVERYTHING!
Anyway, I love this time of year! Spring is so near!
UPDATE: We received our hybrid seeds in the mail and got those planted exactly a week later. Tigger Tomatoes, golden tomatoes, Moon and Stars Melon, cucumbers, a variety of squash, and more.

So jealous of your space to do a garden like this. I need space like that this year. I want to be out planting and growing and getting my hands dirty in the dirt. Sounds like a wonderful array of produce. Liam will be loving it and eating stuff right off the vine!

That is awesome that you guys have such a big garden. I would love to do that kind of thing. My backyard is way to small though and so we usually only plant a few basic things in big planters on our deck. Good luck with all your stuff though.
SOOO much fun! How nice would it be to have all that space! We're going to plant a (tiny) garden this year. Rip up a bit of that nice landscaping and go to town! We'll see how it goes!
As long as the garage was cool and not hot-- it was the perfect place to store the seeds! They will germinate like champs!
I love your list of garden goodies. I started some seeds on Saturday. I have more to do still. I want my garden to be ridiculous this year!
I'm doing hanging planters for my peppers and tomatoes this year. I'm sewing up some planters this week. I can't wait until these seedlings sprout, the weather warms, and I can get outside!
By hanging planters, I mean the kind that grows the plants upside down. You can sew them up out of canvas type fabric, or denim...
Ok, I promise this is my last comment--- are you using heirloom seeds? After everything I've learned about seeds, I will never grow another type. Last year I used hybrid.
We started a garden too and I'm so excited about it! I hope we don't kill everything! Ours is very similar to yours, except no carrots (even though I might change my mind and plant some) and we have acorn and spaghetti squash.
If ours fails, we might be sneaking by your house to enjoy your success. ;)
How wonderful! My biggest (and maybe only?) regret that we will still be here for all of April is that it means we can't start seeds. I really want a big garden this year - yours is inspiring!
