A new visitor

I am sitting at the dining room table doing a little work tonight and I hear some rustling outside the kitchen/garage door. We have a kitty door for the cats to go in and out of the house. So the sounds in the garage are pretty easy to hear this close.

Recently I put the cat food in the garage so Liam wouldn't start eating it here on the kitchen floor. I thought one of the cats was sitting on the other side of the door... I went to investigate anyway. I cracked the door about a foot and it wasn't a cat. It was a teenage size looking skunk! I hurried and shut the door, then immediately locked the kitty door so the skunk wouldn't come in. Then I ran upstairs to see if the cats were sleeping with their Daddy (as they usually do). Luckily they were both in bed with him. Whew!

Now, I need to find a way to get the skunk out and close the outside garage door. We usually leave it open about 8 inches so the cats can come and go. Time to start keeping them inside I guess. (My stomach is still near my throat the sight of skunk startled me so much!)

It totally could have! Just flipping on the lights and opening the door would startle it, you'd think! He was on a mission an stayed a bit longer to finish his meal. I got the door closed after he left.

Getting rid of a skunk is easy. Just get some black spray paint, spray his back while he's eating, and voila! you now have a stinky new black cat!

My mom has racoons that come and eat their cats' food off of the deck. Scared the crap out of me the first time I saw them.

That is just one scary, and potentially stinky site! I hope you can get the little bugger out with out any unpleasnetness!

crazy! You wouldn't think a skunk would just roam in your neighborhood. I've seen lots of raccoons but never a skunk! How funny! Glad you got it out without any nastiness!

I was thinking that it was strange that a skunk (or a 'stunk' as Alli calls them) was in the neighborhood too. I'm glad you got it out!

We just got back from Nevada and the whole time we were there every nite we would smell the "sweet" smell of skunk. My Grandma would make sure the back door was closed all the way so we wouldn't have any skunk surpises on the back porch. And I remember when I was about 13 our dog was sprayed by a skunk. I'm so glad you didn't have any smelly surprises!! What if he would have decided to venture in??? It would have been an exciting night to stay up and work!!

Congratulations on your narrow escape! I can't imagine what it would have been like if it had come in the kitty door!
