Wants

Monday when I picked Liam up from preschool, he saw a motorcycle.

"Mom, instead of scooter for my birthday, I want a motorcycle."

"Liam, I won't even let Daddy have a motorcycle, so I don't think you are getting one."

----------------------------------------------

Liam was in a grumpy mood when we were on our way home yesterday. I had folded his papers into his backpack and ruined them - in his opinion. In his grouchy voice he said,

"Mom, I don't like this car. I want a Must-ting." (This child loves Mustangs and picks them out where ever we go.)

"I don't like this car either, but we can't buy a Mustang right now. It costs a lot of money."

"I want a grey and black one with white stripes on it."

"I like dark blue."

"No, Mom! (Whining now) I want black, grey and white!"

"So what color do you want the tires to be then?"

"Ummmm. They are going to have clouds on them."

"Okay - you'll have to tell Daddy all about that."

Golf - Liam Style

Liam had his second golfing experience on Saturday. He went in May with Daddy and Uncle Drew, but this time I handed the camera to Daddy and asked him to document our little sport. That he did.

Ian said that Liam would place his tee just inches from his and then tell Daddy that his tee was in his way when he went to putt the ball. Serious business with this kid...

Liam also got upset that Daddy didn't get a photo of him riding on the floor of the cart. Weird that he would prefer that over video footage of him actually driving the cart.

Liam holding baby Tyler

Liam adores Joslyn's new baby brother, Tyler. He not only asks to go see Joslyn, but that he misses baby Ty. It's very sweet.

I took advantage of his adoration by helping him organize his toys a few weeks ago... asking him to find things that he is too big for and we could give to baby Ty. This strategy worked like a charm. He wanted to give almost everything to that cute baby! I had to tell him to keep a few things. We ended up with a big pile to give to charity. We gave a couple things to baby Ty. We dropped the rest of it off yesterday with no qualms from Liam.

Wasatch Mountain and Mirror Lake Hwy

Friday night we went camping up at Wastach Mountain State Park again. It was a beautiful evening driving up the canyon and setting up camp. We enjoyed a nice campfire dinner of hot dogs and Polish sausages. For dessert, marshmallows.

Before saying goodnight Liam and Daddy did shadow puppets with the flashlight. Liam squirmed for (what seemed) a really long time in Daddy's big sleeping bag before getting a final snuggle and nodding off for the night.

Liam woke before we did and tried his best to entertain himself in the camper while we got a few more winks. Daddy let me laze in bed while he made a wonderful breakfast for all of us - breakfast burritos. Liam loved every bite.

We went over to Huber Grove and picked two bags full of apples. Liam decided he loved apples that day. Maybe it was because they were Liam-sized or maybe it was because they were hand-picked by his parents and as sweet as can be. We may never know why he suddenly loves apples, but he ate three that day.

After loading the apples in the car, we hit the road to Provo River Falls. It was a gorgeous misty day. The clouds were so billowy, the fall mountainside was turning color, the thunder was relaxing. Just a great day to be on a drive in the mountains. We definitely want to go back and camp at Mirror Lake and maybe hike Mount Baldy.

Here is a snippet of our drive. I had no idea there was a "time lapse" function on my camera until about 10 minutes ago when I uploaded my footage.

A face like this

A face like this... how could one ever be mad at this child? Hmm, a mystery.

It's been a long 4 weeks since Liam started pre-school full time.

His days are long and full.

He is exhausted and still adjusting.

The poor guy can't get a hold of his emotions.

It's hard on him, it's hard on his parents.

Things better even out soon because both of his parental units are about spent with the instant fit fest from the moment he wakes up until he is left behind at school. Then it starts again at pick-up (or it might delay until dinner time).

Going to bed is harder too.

A magic remedy would be nice, but I think it's just a matter of time that he finds peace with his new schedule, new environment and new friends (and bullies).

Rain Clouds

I picked Liam up from preschool today and he asked me why Heavenly Father was making it rain. I told him that He wanted our plants to grow because the plants are sooo thirsty. He went on to ask about my windshield wipers after that. We had a long conversation about those and how they wiped the window clear so I could see. He then told me he wished there were wipers on his window too.

--------------------------------------

Later when we were driving home from dinner with Daddy, we found a rainbow over by the big mountains. After celebrating seeing a rainbow, Liam noticed the clouds were extremely low.

He said, "Hey Dad, why is there smoke over there?"

We explained those were the clouds blanketing the mountains.

Then he said, "Are the clouds dying? They are falling down."

"No, Son, the clouds aren't dying. They are full of rain and the rain is so heavy. After they get all the rain out, they will go higher in the sky."

Oktoberfest - Snowbird, Utah

Saturday we went up to Snowbird for Oktoberfest. We had a good time with a few mishaps with Liam's fits, but otherwise we enjoyed a beautiful day in the mountains. I've compiled all the photos into a video, but here are my faves.

Ian had the great idea of putting the camera up to the scope. Very cool shot!

Some fun stuff

I just did a find on Liam's birthday via this site. He shares the same birthday with Pablo Picasso and Johann Strauss. All those thoughts I've had of artistic greatness for Liam... well I certainly feel it stronger now.

Also, I finally posted about our trip to Lagoon. Go here to see the photos and details. Don't think I am a bad mom for taking him on the Tilt-a-Whirl.

Ducks and Joslyn

Sunday night we picked up Joslyn and went to feed the ducks. The kids had a great time throwing bread and running around.

We took Joslyn home with us for popcycles and they were so funny eating them.

Family Photos

Saturday, August 15th, we all got up early to get ourselves looking camera ready. It was a gorgeous 70 degrees outside. We met our photographer at a beautiful park at 9:30am. She was really fun to work with and did her best to make sure we all smiled and looked at the camera. Sierra isn't much of a morning person, so we had some trouble at first with smiles, but otherwise we got a lot of great shots in.

We only had an hour to get as many photos as possible. The kids were making me sweat after awhile because they were darting everywhere and having so much fun in the free space. We'd nab kids, act goofy to entice smiles, then grin like we were talking through our teeth, break... then repeat. (Here is one of those moments and it didn't quite work for Liam.)

Ian and Grandpa were good sports through it all. After a bit, Grandpa said we needed to do a shot that wasn't so formal. He and Ian came up with this idea to rest our heads on some boulders so we just looked like we were without bodies. It didn't turn out quite as funny as they hoped, but it was cute.

The whole hour, Liam was trying to get used to wearing long pants. He was hiking up his pants the ENTIRE time. Grandpa thought it was so funny, so he'd mock our little sport every time he had a chance. I was glad the photographer caught one of those moments on camera. A great memory of my dad's sense of humor.

Speaking of which, we had a few shots with just we daughters and Dad. He was acting so goofy and we were eating it up. He is such a fun dad!

It was a wonderful morning! Everyone was pretty dang cooperative and I couldn't have been more grateful for that!

Here are a few more candid shots of the kids having a great time!

Thanks, Mom and Dad! We love you so much!

Heidi's Graduation

Our trip to Idaho this past weekend was pretty good. We left Thursday night and headed to K’s house. We stayed up late with Katie and Josh while Liam entertained his second wind with a great wooden tile puzzle. He made many designs quietly while we enjoyed our friends.

We all slept extremely well. Liam woke early on Friday morning ready to play with Isaac and Jacob. He got up an hour or so too early though. The twins slept until 8am and then the fun began. They boys played hard until noon when we said good-bye to our wonderful friends and drove the rest of the way to my sister's home town further north. Liam took a little nap on the way.

We arrived at our beautiful hotel late in the afternoon. We had made reservations on hotels.com and paid about half price for a really nice place. It was great to have our own space for the weekend.

We called Heidi and told them where we were, so she and Sierra and Grandma and Grandpa came over to see us. It was a happy reunion with everyone. Grandma B was so excited to hug Liam. They hugged and then Sierra hugged them both too! Grandma was so happy to see Sierra and Liam play together again.

After a lot of playing and chatting with everyone, we broke up the party to freshen up and go to Heidi's graduation that night. On the way, the kids were in the backseat having a blast together. They were laughing and squealing like crazy people. Once we got to the park, the kids were let loose to play until the ceremony began. Grandma and Liam enjoyed the monkey bars together... well Grandma enjoyed both the grandkids as they darted from toy to toy.

I was so glad the ceremony was at a park like this. It ended up that Heidi had invited a little gal and her mom to the graduation and the gal played with the kids at the park while the rest of us focused on the ceremony. It was really nice to see the group of people Heidi had spent the last two years of her life with. They were commended for all their hard work and recognized individually for their accomplishments as they strived for their Dental Hygienist titles.

After the ceremony, more squealing and laughing commenced in the back seat.

We all went to Johnny Carrino's for dinner. It was so delicious and fun to be with everyone. The kids went nuts over Grandma's strawberry virgin daiquiri... And I think Liam ate a whole loaf of bread all by himself. Whenever the waitress would come by, he'd make sure she refilled our basket each time. By the time his spaghetti arrived, he was already pretty full. Both kids got antsy towards the end and Grandpa gave an honest effort wrangling them both on his lap.

We said good-night to everyone and headed back to our hotel. It was close to 9pm and I knew the pool would close at 10pm, so I rushed Liam into his suit and we took a dip for awhile.

Once we got warmed up in the shower and dressed for bed, it was time for Liam to see where he was going to sleep. Liam was tickled to have his own big bed to sleep in and so were we! He looked so tiny in his queen pull-out couch bed.

We all slept like babies that night.
